Algeria at AI for Good 2026: Policy, Institutions and Cooperation
Algerian representatives contributed to global AI governance, digital inclusion, African cooperation, and parliamentary dialogue during Geneva’s international AI meetings.
Geneva, Switzerland – From 6 to 10 July 2026, Algerian representatives engaged across the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, and the WSIS Forum 2026. The country’s presence covered government policy, institutional projects, regulation, African cooperation, and parliamentary dialogue.
Led by Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki, the delegation joined international discussions alongside representatives from Algérie Télécom, the Regulatory Authority of Post and Electronic Communications (ARPCE), and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.
Government and Global AI Governance
During the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, Sid Ali Zerrouki supported an international framework that promotes sustainable development, protects national sovereignty, and enables developing countries to participate in designing and governing AI systems.
He also joined the WSIS Leaders TalkX session, “Information Without Barriers: Making Knowledge Accessible”, which addressed digital literacy, multilingual resources, access to knowledge, and participation in the digital economy, as well as the WSIS Ministerial Roundtable.
Institutions, Regulation and Digital Inclusion
In the areas of AI regulation and digital inclusion, Zhour Flissi, a board member of ARPCE, participated in the WSIS Regulators Roundtable.
Algérie Télécom also received a WSIS Prize 2026 in Category 2: Information and Communication Infrastructure for its AI for Digital Inclusion platform. The ongoing project uses mobile and web assessments to build a dynamic map of digital inclusion, identifying underserved areas and gaps in connectivity, digital services, and digital skills.
African and Parliamentary Cooperation
At the continental level, Sid Ali Zerrouki joined the second meeting of the African Artificial Intelligence Council. The council adopted a two-year roadmap and action plan and established six specialized committees to support the priorities of the African AI Strategy.
The Algerian presence also extended to parliamentary cooperation. Abdelouahab Yagoubi represented the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean at the Parliamentary Dialogue on Digital Governance, where parliamentarians and international experts examined AI regulation, human rights, democratic oversight, and the role of legislative institutions in governing emerging technologies.
